๐ Do the odds tell the truth? Our own data
How often outcomes at each price really happened, against the probability the odds implied.
| Decimal odds | Outcomes | Odds said | Actually won | Return |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.01-1.30 | 302 | 83.8% | 82.1% | -1.9% |
| 1.30-1.60 | 814 | 69.1% | 68.2% | -1.5% |
| 1.60-2.00 | 1,512 | 56.1% | 53.4% | -4.7% |
| 2.00-2.50 | 1,917 | 45.2% | 42.3% | -6.6% |
| 2.50-3.50 | 4,262 | 33% | 30.8% | -6.6% |
| 3.50-5.00 | 4,049 | 25.5% | 22.5% | -11.9% |
| 5.00-8.00 | 1,229 | 17.2% | 14.9% | -13.7% |
| 8.00+ | 491 | 9.4% | 6.7% | -33.8% |
What this shows: the implied probability from the converter above is the bookmaker's price, not the true chance. Across every home win, draw and away win in our data, short prices were close to fair: favourites under 1.30 won about as often as the odds said. The further out you go, the bigger the gap. Outsiders at 8.00 or more won far less often than their odds implied, so backing them blindly lost about a third of the stake. This is the favourite-longshot bias: the bookmaker margin sits mostly on the long shots.
Method: 14,576 home win, draw and away win prices from 4,859 matches since 3 July 2026, bookmaker odds before kick-off, grouped by price. "Odds said" = 1 divided by the odds, so including the bookmaker margin.

How the conversion works
Decimal odds are fractional odds plus one: 6/4 is 1.5 + 1 = 2.50. American odds above evens show the profit on 100 (+150), below evens the stake needed to win 100 (-150). The implied probability is 1 divided by the decimal odds. Read more in How to Read Football Odds.
Odds to percentage
Any price can be turned into an implied probability: divide 1 by the decimal odds. Odds of 2.00 mean 50%, 1.50 means 66.7%, 4.00 means 25%. For fractional odds a/b the chance is b divided by a + b, so 3/1 is 1 in 4, or 25%. Add up the percentages of all outcomes in a market and you get more than 100%: the surplus is the bookmaker margin.
American odds
American (moneyline) odds show either what a 100 stake wins or what you must stake to win 100. +150 means a 100 stake wins 150 (decimal 2.50); -200 means you stake 200 to win 100 (decimal 1.50). Positive numbers are outsiders, negative numbers are favourites. Type either format into the converter above.

โ FAQ
How do I convert fractional odds to decimal?
Divide the first number by the second and add 1. 5/2 becomes 2.5 + 1 = 3.50.
What is implied probability?
The chance the odds suggest, calculated as 1 divided by the decimal odds. Odds of 2.50 imply 40%.
Why do the implied probabilities add up to more than 100%?
That is the bookmaker margin. The difference above 100% is what the bookmaker builds in.
How do I convert odds to a percentage?
Divide 1 by the decimal odds and multiply by 100. Decimal 2.50 is 1 / 2.50 = 40%. The converter above does this for decimal, fractional and American odds.
How do American odds work?
A plus sign shows what a 100 stake wins (+150 wins 150), a minus sign shows what you stake to win 100 (-200 stakes 200 to win 100).
