๐Ÿ“Š Which bet type holds up best? Our own data

115 days of real odds and results, the same selections settled as different bet types.

The same four selections, five ways to bet them (legs at 1.40 to 1.80)

Yankee (11 bets)94.8%25.2%-0.3%

4 trebles65.2%25.2%-0.9%
4-fold acca25.2%25.2%+0.0%
4 singles99.1%65.2%+0.6%

What this shows: the bet type decides how often you get something back, not how much you win in the long run. Four singles paid out almost every day; a 4-fold acca only on the days all four won. Over the period all of them ended close to each other, because every bet carries the same bookmaker margin. Pick the bet type for the ride you want, and use the calculator above to see what each one pays on your own odds. The detail per bet type is on our Lucky 15, Yankee and acca calculators.

Method: every day since 3 July 2026 (4,859 matches) we took the shortest-priced selections inside the odds range, one per match, from match result, double chance, goal lines and both teams to score, with the bookmaker odds before kick-off. Every bet type was settled on the same four legs per day at 1 unit per bet. "Paid out" = share of days with any return, "In profit" = share of days the return beat the total stake, "Return" = profit or loss over the whole period at 1 unit per bet. The same rules pick our daily acca tips.

How to use the bet calculator

  1. Choose the bet type. The number of selections fills in automatically.
  2. Enter your stake, per bet or as a total.
  3. Tick Each way if you placed an each way bet and choose the place terms (1/4 or 1/5 of the odds).
  4. Enter the odds of every selection, decimal (2.50) or fractional (6/4), and set the result: won, placed, lost or void.

The return updates as you type. The total return includes your stake; the profit is the return minus the total stake.

Fractional or decimal odds

You can type either format. Fractional odds of 6/4 mean a profit of 6 for every 4 staked, which is decimal odds of 2.50 (6 / 4 + 1). Evens is 2.00. Want to convert odds or see the implied probability? Use the odds converter in our guide How to Read Football Odds.

Free bet calculator: stake not returned

Most free bets are "stake not returned": if the bet wins you get the winnings, but not the free bet amount itself. A 10 free bet at 3.00 therefore pays 20, not 30. Tick Free bet (stake not returned) below the calculator and every winning bet is worked out without its stake.

That is also why free bets are worth more at longer odds. A 10 free bet at 1.50 can win at most 5, at 3.00 it can win 20 and at 6.00 it can win 50. Bookmakers often set a minimum price for free bets for the same reason.

Which bet type should I use?

Singles keep things simple: every selection stands on its own. Doubles, trebles and accas multiply the odds, but one loser sinks the whole bet. Full-cover bets such as the Trixie, Patent, Yankee and Lucky 15 combine all of them, so you still get a return when one or two selections let you down, at the cost of more stakes.

โ“ FAQ

How does a bet calculator work?

It multiplies the stake by the odds of every winning selection in each bet, then adds up all the bets. For combination bets such as a Yankee, it first splits the bet into all its doubles, trebles and bigger combinations.

What does stake per bet mean?

Full-cover bets consist of several bets. A Lucky 15 at 1 per bet costs 15 in total, because it contains 15 bets. Switch to total if you only know the total amount you paid.

How is an each way bet calculated?

An each way bet is two bets of the same stake: one to win and one to place. The place part is paid at a fraction of the odds, usually 1/4 or 1/5. If your selection wins, both parts pay out.

What happens with a void selection or non-runner?

A void selection counts as odds of 1.00. Singles on it return the stake, and in doubles or accumulators the bet continues with the remaining selections.

Are bookmaker bonuses included?

No. Bonuses such as double odds on a single winner in a Lucky 15 differ per bookmaker, so the calculator shows the standard return. Rule 4 deductions and dead heats are not included either.

How do I calculate a free bet?

Tick "Free bet (stake not returned)" in the calculator. A winning free bet pays the odds minus one times the stake: a 10 free bet at 3.00 returns 20. A losing free bet costs you nothing.

Does the bet calculator work for football and horse racing?

Yes. The maths of singles, multiples and full-cover bets is the same in every sport. Each way and place terms are mostly used in horse racing, the rest works for any sport.
